The Motivation
Soft robotics are an emerging field in engineering characterized by the deformable materials from which they are made. Traditional robotics typically falls between mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, and computer science. Yet, female participation in these disciplines has historically been low. On the other hand, soft robotics tends to be informed by engineering disciplines with high female representation including environmental engineering, biomedical engineering, chemical engineering, and materials engineering. By employing a soft robotics curriculum we hope to leverage these findings and enhance student efficacy, motivation, and interest for engineering.
